ENCINITAS, San Diego County — Dog owners planning November outings should check access to the Maggie Houlihan Memorial Dog Park at Encinitas Community Park: the city’s parks information identifies a fall turf-maintenance period and names other locations for off-leash exercise.
The City of Encinitas lists a fall 2026 closure period of October 12 to November 10 for seasonal maintenance involving turf, mulch, drainage improvements and planting. A separate line on the same city page lists an older October 6 to November 3 interval for the community-park dog park. Because the page contains two different published date ranges, the safest approach is to confirm reopening with Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts before making a special trip.
Alternatives for dog owners
According to the city, designated off-leash opportunities are available at Olympus Park Dog Park, Encinitas Viewpoint Park, Orpheus Park, Sun Vista Park and Mountain Vista Trail. Rules and hours differ from site to site. At Viewpoint Park, for example, the city lists specific early-morning and afternoon off-leash periods rather than unrestricted all-day access.
Residents should observe posted hours, leash requirements outside permitted areas and rain-related closures. The Parks Department’s general number is 760-633-2740; the field condition recording is 760-633-2761.
