ENCINITAS, San Diego County — Residents and businesses filing development applications in Encinitas may encounter updated charges after the city’s revised user-fee schedule took effect on October 25, 2026.
In its City Council summary, the city reports that elected officials approved changes covering Planning, Land Development Engineering, and Fire Prevention and Marine Safety services. The review was designed to bring city fee revenue closer to the cost of delivering those specific services rather than apply a blanket increase to all city payments.
What the city expects
City staff estimated that the revised schedule would increase recovery of service costs from approximately 43% to 60%, and projected about $1.46 million in additional annual revenue. Those are city projections, not audited collections after the effective date.
Fees can vary by permit category, application type and scope. Homeowners planning remodeling or accessory housing, contractors requesting inspections and commercial applicants should consult the relevant current schedule before submitting materials or budgeting for work. This announcement does not establish the charge for any single project.
City Council meeting recaps are available on the official Council Rundown page, while service desks can explain the latest rates and processing requirements. City Hall is at 505 South Vulcan Avenue; its main number is 760-633-2600.
